The Mission / Small Scale Media

Small-scale media (or journalism) allows people to authentically express themselves and engage with their communities. It is the backbone of any free society or culture. In contrast, big corporations in media tend to represent good ideas at the end of their life cycle, where the original seed of an idea has mutated into a massive, cancerous lump of lies, poor quality control, and financial bias. These corporations get paid big bucks to cover certain things or to fabricate specific perspectives. When they truly lose their touch and technology develops faster than they can keep up, they become unable to distinguish truth from reality. AI-generated images of fake soldiers and families garner actual attention and sympathy, supported by the boosting of bots or algorithm abuse. If these entities cannot distinguish and publish the truth, what purpose do they serve other than to keep running and make a profit? They do not represent the communities they cover. They do not advocate for the truth. They simply push whatever perspective is hot to generate attention, and more importantly, revenue.

Then the plot thickens. Memes become news. Fake images and stories dominate the mediascape. Ideas that start as jokes on image boards take on a life of their own. Satire and sarcasm are picked up by old-school journalists who misinterpret them. Extremists discover this twisted abstract through poorly vetted coverage. The snowball rolls downhill until it crashes at the bottom, leaving a Capitol-sized trail of destruction.

We can prevent this by creating our own publications that reflect our truth and our reality. We can connect in real time with the world around us, which is the real truth. We can experience, document, and share it. The only way to fight the financial machine of synthetic perspectives is to be vulnerable and authentic. And then publish it.

Help us in this fight. Send in your stories, your struggles, your art, your music. Share your beautiful, authentic self with us. The community needs to hear and see you. Because...

♥To be seen, is to be loved.♥

Much love,

Cam
