SHE WEARS MY BLOOD CHOPS OUT A NEW SINGLE
Released on August 9th, 2026, the brand-new debut single "El Carnicero" from She Wears My Blood (formerly known as Hot Spit) hits hard. After a recent new name AND lineup change, I reached out to ask them about adapting, the new single, and what was next for them (another new single!?) Each member had plenty to say.

Isaiah:

[About SWMB]:
She Wears My Blood is a three-piece metalcore band from Austin, Texas. We are an all-queer group which is a direct influence on our art.
[On how SWMB came to be]:
I met Alex through the local music DIY scene. Garrett is my childhood friend whom I also bonded with through music. We each needed a creative outlet and discovered that we love what happens when we collaborate. The three of us have been evolving together for about 2 years now.
[Regarding the new single]:
"El Carnicero" is the first single we've released as our current group. To be concise She Wears My Blood is a concept band. On the narrative layer this song is a death cult victim's last words. The grander idea with this song was to say "fuck you" to the oppressors in our society, specifically hypocrites, traitors, and sellouts.
[On the recent changes]:
After our lineup change, we redirected our energy and felt like we were creating something completely new from before. We sound and look different, and we wanted a name that better represented us and also aligns with our new lyrical concepts. I also thought borrowing a song name from legendary screamo band Raein would be a nice homage to our influences and also a good way for us to help find our tribe.
[On the upcoming single]
Our next song is lovingly called Fucking Worthless Scum. It's another piece in the concept we are building and it's from the perspective of a villain in the story. The real inspiration of the song was us trying to get inside the head of some terrible people we've known in our time. Others in the band write lyrics too, and when I get ahold of them, I'll transform them into part of an overarching story. Even though we write from specific experiences, I try to keep things abstract enough so that people can interpret the meanings for themselves. I think that makes the art more engaging.
Garrett:

[On how SWMB came to be]:
Me and Isaiah are childhood friends that have always shared a deep love of music. Alex and Isaiah met through the local music scene. We soon found that we loved making music together and now share a wonderful sense of friendship and family.
[Regarding the new single]:
"El Carnicero" is the first single we've officially released. I brought the main guitar ideas and Alex wrote lyrics centered around the hypocrisy of wanting to destroy those that represent a part of someone they're suppressing. As we began making music together, we found we wanted to build our songs around a concept. From there this song morphed into a death cult victim's last words to their killer. But the drive of this song remains a big "fuck you" to the oppressors in our society, specifically hypocrites, traitors, and sellouts.
[On the recent changes]:
After our lineup changed, we redirected our energy and felt that we were creating something completely new from before. We sound different, look different and felt it made sense to have a name that better matched that as well as fit better with the new lyrical concept. Isaiah brought the name to pay homage to legendary screamo band Raein.
[On the upcoming single]
A fun little tune called Fucking Worthless Scum. It continues to build the concept, this time from a villain within the story. The inspiration of this song was us trying to get inside the head of some of the worst people we've known and the music reflects this idea of someone that can't move on from their horrible ways with a repeating hook throughout the piece.
Alex:

[About SWMB]:
She Wears My Blood, or SWMB for short, is a 3 piece, all queer post hardcore / alt metal band!
[On how SWMB came to be]:
I’ve played music all my life both classically and for fun. After playing with several different groups, I was determined to find my own. Through that journey I met Isaiah and shortly thereafter Garrett, who have both grown up together. I had an idea for a project and us 3 started jamming together. The rest is history! The two are like brothers to me - I’m so happy our paths crossed in this lifetime.
[Regarding the new single]:
In listening to some guitar ideas Garrett had, the main melody in the song stuck out to me. I started writing about a hypocrite seeking to destroy those that represent the part of themselves they deny - a story we see all too often as queer people and as a woman. Since each of us have been impacted by extreme religion, this notion spoke to us. The cadence in the pre-chorus was inspired by the women/lesbian-fronted nu metal band Otep. It morphed into a piece in what will be our concept EP: “El Carnicero,” The Butcher, slicing up its own in spite of itself.
[On the recent changes]:
As time went on and our members changed, we wanted something that better represented what we had morphed into. After much discussion, Isaiah was inspired by Raein and positioned “She Wears My Blood.” The name resonated with us - a woman as a subject wearing the blood of others. More specifically, the readers. The imagery was powerful, divine, and spoke to something deeper in each one of us.
[On the upcoming single]
When writing the lyrics, I tapped into the part of myself that felt like absolute shit, the side that wants to push all others away - like everything you do makes you feel like a villain. The song is a journey through that. The lyrics show a struggle of someone accepting themselves as harmful while also wishing that they didn’t exist, hoping the listener finally finds peace without them. “Fucking Worthless Scum” (also title of the song) is screamed out at the climax of the song, bringing to the forefront that those who hurt others often hate themselves. If you’ve ever felt like a villain in someone else’s story, this song is for you.

OBSIDIAN RIPS A COMBO AT THE SKATEPARK

On August 22nd, Obsidian Frequency hosted a free, all ages hardcore/punk/slam show at the Skate Park Of San Marcos, also known as SPOSM. Obsidian has hand-built a reputation for throwing awesome DIY shows and this one was no exception. This was the best turnout I've seen at a SPOSM show so far, in my time covering them on The Field Report and otherwise. The crowd was absolutely fantastic and really brought the energy. There were even times, dare I say, I got a little scared from how hard the crowd was moshing. As soon as I pulled up to the edge of the pit, a body hit me like a missile and laid me out. Woke me up real fast. It was pretty awesome.
NAOMORI

The highlight of the evening for me had to be Naomori. They had this insanely aggressive "kings shall fall" energy, with a very dark flair of drama. At times, they almost felt cinematic, which is outstanding for a band that was so heavily DIY, they nearly didn't get their guitar to work. Technical issues be damned, they left their stamp on the skatepark show. I had the privilege of asking them a few questions about their band and here's what they had to say.
[About Naomori]
Naomori [pronounced nay-oh-mori] was founded by two cousins in Summer 2025. The name comes from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the video game we obsessed over. The character wears a horned helmet and decapitates the other samurai who betrayed their home.
[On past endeavors]
Originally, we played two-piece drum and bass grindcore inspired by Suffering Bastard and made demos for friends.
One of our friends joined as a guitarist and wrote more songs, then we started playing live.
After 20 something shows, we had mostly lost the original vision of the band and had grown unhappy with it, and so we separated with the guitarist and mostly wiped our discography to go grind again.
While looking for members, we released "Melophobia", a 2-piece goregrind demo to showcase the new sound.
After finding new members, we went back to shows and started playing every weekend for three months.
The second guitarist would leave the band to focus on personal life and our bassist switched to guitar.
[Regarding current projects]
Now a 3-piece, we kept writing and are leaving the live scene to focus on recording a DIY full length album, that should be out by October.
"A Tale of Grief and Despair" is our telling of Shoujo Tsubaki, an animated film that fucked us up as kids.
The original story depicts a girl called Midori losing her mother and being abused by the circus that ends up with her.
In our version, Midori is the listener or (in our personal case) the writer, and the album and its 40ish songs depict the emotions we experienced growing up and trying to become adults.
Politics, depression, heartbreak, grief and addiction are all prevalent themes throughout the record with songs that mix the grinding noise of Combatwoundedveteran and Couple Skate with the crazy mosh parts of Zao and Converge and the brutality of Chelsea Grin and Whitechapel. We call this abomination "Violencecore".
Bass will be featured on the record and was recorded by both the singer and guitarist, along with many weird vocal and guitar techniques.
Samples will also be featured and most of them are created by the band.
The drummer is still 16, but as he graduates, we intend to tour and do a second release that's more brutal and political, as politics are referenced a lot on this CD, but we felt we could do more with that as we leave the state more.
[Final statement]
The main thing about the band is pure fucking aggression, violence, hatred for all around you, total nihilism, and you'll feel it on the CD.
